She’s young, she’s rich, she’s famous.
Of course, she’s Britney Spears.
Comfortably dressed in an off the shoulders flowered blouse, tan midriff, and faded jeans, she looks as though she just stepped out of her Pepsi video.
Her first movie Crossroads has confounded her critics by doing extremely well at the box office.
At her press conference for the movie, she doesn’t disappoint.
She’s a wind up Barbie doll. Ask her a question, and she has a quick answer.
But in fairness one cannot deny her poise and her eagerness to please.
How much did she have to do with the planning of the movie?
“I had a lot to do with it. I came up with the idea of three girls going on a road trip and having a good time. I worked out the detail of the characters, but for the script itself I got a writer to come in and do all that for me.”
Her equally famous boyfriend, nsync’s Justin Timberlake, was at the film’s premiere, the night before, to show his support.
They seem to be very compatible. Are they?
“I’ve known him all my life, since the Mickey Mouse Club, when we were twelve and thirteen. We’re just like magnets when we get together.”

“There was a time we didn’t see each other for a while, but after I got my record deal, we were traveling with each other a lot, and we just got back together.”

“Yeah, yeah. Absolutely committed.”

“Who knows? I’d love that in the future.”
They recently vacationed together in Hawaii. Would she like to go back?
“I would love to go back, and be on the the boat and have strawberries and ice cream on the beach and then go out on the yacht and have more strawberries and ice cream and just lay out in the sun. Definitely.”

“He’s really secure with himself, and he makes me laugh. I love to laugh so he makes me laugh all the time. I think that’s one of his best qualities. And he’s a good kisser, too.”
Is he spiritual?
“Very. He’s a very spiritual person. We both are. It helps that he comes from the same background that I do. He’s very ambitious and motivated and he loves life, which makes it fun for me.”
Like Brooke Shields, she has publicly acknowledged that she’s a virgin. Does she have any regrets?
“To a certain extent I do kind of regret even bringing it up because it’s none of anybody’s business. But what’s done is done.”
Was she trying to set an example for young girls?
“I did it because I’m an open person, but I’ve learned now.”

“You can’t please everyone. Some people like it, some people don’t. I just wear what I want to wear.”

“No, I haven’t.”

“That was very sweet of her. It’s cool, wow!”

“I like JZ, I like NDRE, I love Alicia Keyes; I think she’s amazing. I like a lot of hip hop stuff, that’s what I’m inspired by right now.”

“I love Christina.”
Which actors inspire her?
“Probably, Madonna. Growing up I thought she was brilliant. And as far as actors and actresses go, Goldie Hawn. I think she’s amazing She lights up the screen. I love her charisma.”
Did she have any formal training?
“I listened a lot to people like Whitney Houston and Michael Jackson. I always sang with them in my bedroom. But I did a lot of performing before I got my record deal, so you can say I had a little bit of training.”
She seems to be surrounded by lots of advisers.

“If I have a question about something, I ask them, but for the most part they come to me with questions, and I kind of tell them.”
Do they also handle her money?
“I have wonderful people that I’ve been with a really long time now. And they invest my money.”
Does she take their advise?
“I’m very open to other people’s opinions, but I always think my opinion is the right one.”
Jokingly she adds, “I’m always right. They’re always wrong.”
Does she ever lose her cool?
“There’s plenty of times when I get frustrated. Just like everybody else, I lose my temper.”
Was she pressured to sing in Crossroads?
“At the very beginning I didn’t want to sing. I didn’t think it was necessary. I just wanted to play Lucy, but more and more after the writer came in, I thought it would spice it up a little bit , and it would be fun for the fans to see. So that’s why we put it in. But in the future I would love to do films that don’t incorporate me singing. Definitely.”
Her sister has a small part in the film. How much is her family involved in her success?
“They’re not really involved at all. Of course they come out and see me. And as far as my little sister being in the movie, they needed a little girl to play me and who better than my little sister who looks exactly like me.”
What happened to the nude scene in the film?
“That was totally made up. There never was one. They wanted me to do a little bit more but I told them,’You’re going to have to get a body double if you want to go there because I’m not doing that.”
Will she in the future?
“I never will.”
People have called her a diva.
Does she consider that a compliment?
“I don’t know. When I think of diva I think of someone who is respected, someone who’s admired, someone who’s very talented. Am I a diva? I hope so. I think I’m getting there.”

“I don’t like my fingernails, they’re really bad. I don’t like my feet. I don’t like my nose. You want me to go on.”
And what does she like?
“I guess my lips because my boyfriend likes my lips, so I’ll say lips. And I like my hair today. I’m having a good hair day.”
Her mother must be a very special person in her life.
“She is, she’s my role model. I would love to be just like her. She’s made me the person I am today. She’s my inspiration.”
Does she have a definition of a good woman?
“Someone who has experienced life to the fullest, who has all the wisdom she needs, and is respected. And that definitely would define my mother.”
How much did her father contribute?
“I had a wonderful childhood, and I hope my kids can have the same childhood I had, seriously. It was just a regular, a cool family tradition. I’d go to Sunday School, come in at night. My mom would cook for me, I’d go to church on Sunday. It was a very warm environment.”
Was she very religious?
“I wouldn’t say very, but it’s a good feeling when you go to church. I’ve always had that background, and it’s something I’ll keep with me every day.”
Does she still go to church?
“I I try as much as I can.”
Evading questions about her father, she finally responds to one.
What advice did he give her?
“My dad was not very eager for me to go out with other boys when I was younger. I definitely had the overprotected dad. He didn’t want me going out with anybody. But as I’ve gotten older he’s gotten a lot better.”
Any advice?
“My dad trusts me. He really does. Just be responsible, be honest, and be yourself.”
Does he approve of her tattoos? And what are they?
“I have a little tattoo that’s a flower, and a Chinese symbol which I wont say what it means. I have a little flower on my toe and a little fairy on my back.”
How important are clothes?
“I love clothes. I’m obsessed with them. I love getting dressed every morning. It’s part of me.”
Would she market her own line like Jennifer Lopez does?
“If I ever did, which I’m not planning to do right now, I would make sure I had a lot of time off so I could put all my effort into it. That’s how important clothes are to me. I freek’n love clothes.”
Does she have any fears?
“Anything with s’s, snakes, spiders, sharks, anything like that I’m afraid of.”
And in case you’re wondering, Britney has two movies in the offing, Chicago and Austin Powers. She’ll do guest appearances in both.
Where does she see herself in ten years?
“I would love to continue doing what I do now, and just get better. I would love to do more films and challenge myself with each one. Oh yeah, I could see myself ten years from now being married and having kids. I would love that.”
